Monday Mishaps ~ Wrong Day!

Okay, I have another one for you. Heck, y’all probably noticed it last week, lol. (See Happy Hump Dayย of last week) That’s right… the dreaded “I’m On the Wrong Dang Day!” mishap.

I know I’m not the only one who has ever done this… but I seem to do it a lot more than most people I know. With five boys, and it being Summer Break from school, the days sort of blend together. Add in a bit of brain damage and I don’t always remember what day it is, much less what I’m supposed to be doing on any given day. Enter my Google calendar. I have that puppy so color coded, some days look like a veritable rainbow of activities and possibilities. EVERY person in my household has their own color, plus there are my business and dance troupe calendars. My Google calendar is synced with my laptop… my tablet… and even my iPod.

You’d think with all those reminders I could maybe… possibly… okay hopefully, remember what day it was. Unfortunately, this is not the case (see above). So, I hope y’all can forgive me if every now and then (or more) something gets posted on the wrong day, lol.

Monday Mishaps ~ That Extra Cut

I can’t be the only one who’s done it! You ย know what I”m talking about… that moment after you cut something – whether it be paper, material or something else. That moment after when you lift up your original project and find you added an extra cut… to something else.

That’s right. I’ve done it on more than one occasion. I’m one of those people who doesn’t always sit at a craft table to do my crafts. I cut my yarn, or paper or whatever right where I am sitting… more often than not, it’s my bed.

Yup, that picture right there is of one of my pillowcases. I sometimes forget just how sharp the scissors I use really are. Yes, they are high carbon stainless, and so sharp they can be used to cut fiberglass (although I don’t do so). I didn’t even feel any extra resistance when I cut either. (I’m hoping that if I get skin in there, I’ll notice BEFORE I cut into myself!) But there’s the proof… and I did it more than once. Ah, well, at least the pillowcase wasn’t expensive!

Monday Mishaps – Tripped Up

Once again, I bring before you… some mishap that has befallen me. Because if you can’t laugh at yourself, what CAN you laugh at?

My family is very fond of telling me that aside from dancing on a stage, I’m just not all that graceful. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not ALWAYS clumsy, and I HAVE been told by others that I do have a “graceful way about” me… but there are times my family wonders how I ever managed to twirl and spin across a stage when I can’t walk across a room some days without tripping over my own feet. I have always maintained that dancers are taught their entire lives to never look down: “You look like you don’t know the step (or- where you’re going – etc.)! Look up!” So, we don’t look down very often… therefore, we trip much easier! That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!

Never before has this become more apparent than as I start to do more and more things behind the camera… instead of in front of it.

Case in point – the photo below:

This blurry picture is of my younger sister and her hubby in the middle of a family shoot in January in Utah. We were all being silly, because that’s just my family, and the snow decided that it needed to get my attention. No really, that’s what happened. Anyone who truly knows me, and even some random strangers, know that I am not really fond of snow. In fact, it has become a goal in life for my father-in-law to get me to do a Snow Angel and to get it on film. Twelve years with my hubby and it has yet to happen.

During this shoot, I was standing in a cleared area of about shin high snow, taking the photos of my and my sister’s families. I took a step, thinking I’d cleared that area of snow enough to do so… oh, how wrong I was! I stepped down right into a spot that had NOT been cleared, and found I couldn’t move my foot and hang on to my camera at the same time. Needless to say, I’m not throwing my camera… so down I went! I proceeded to need help up, because I still wouldn’t put my camera down (really, would you?), and needed a bit of help extricating myself. I’ve been assured by my family and hubby that they’re so proud of me! I managed to keep taking pictures as I fell into the snow drift. All in all… the only thing hurt was my pride. ๐Ÿ˜€

Monday Mishaps – The Butt Dial…

SONY DSC

Okay, so I figure you can’t get through life without a little humor. And since I don’t like to make fun of someone … unless they’re thinking it’s funny too… I figured I’d put myself out there for the laughter and to remind us all… don’t take yourself so seriously!

Every Monday (hopefully) I’ll put up a post about some mishap I may have had over the last week… or one that I remembered from before that. Hopefully, they’ll give you the laugh (after the fact) that they gave me… Or they’ll serve as a “Gee, I probably shouldn’t do that” reminder! So, here goes:

Have you ever thought, “Oh, I’ll just tuck my phone back here in this pocket! It’ll be out of the way, and I’ll feel it if it vibrates.”? Come on, you know you have! I think anyone with a cell phone has. You tuck that phone away, because you don’t have the hands for it, or you just need a handy place to put it while your hands are busy elsewhere… I’m here to say that may not always be your best choice. ๐Ÿ˜€

This past weekend I was in the middle of an engagement session when it happened. Normally, I’d turn my phone off, but my hubby was working, and I needed my phone available for my kids. There I was… sitting on the side of a hill… and I shifted just enough to activate my phone. Hilarity ensued, but I wasn’t aware of it until much much later. I knew my phone had pressed a few buttons, but I thought I’d caught it quick enough before it dialed. Nope. I had butt-dialed my cousin and his wife later told me that they got garbled sounds… then what sounded to them like, “SHUT YOUR FACE!” Since I’d never say that to a photography client… unless it was my sister… I know that’s not what I said, but I can’t for the life of me remember what exactly I DID say! This isn’t the first time something like this has happened to our family:

My husband once hip-dialed me from work. I could hear him in the background and thought he had put me on a sort of hold while dealing with a customer. Nope, the phone was in his pocket and he WAS in fact talking to a customer (he was a store manager of a major paint company at that time). I wasn’t sure of this one my end, however, and proceeded to say loudly, “HELLOOOOO! CAN YOU HEAR ME?!” At this point, all my husband hears is a voice coming from below his belt… and with his sense of humor it became even funnier because he looked suitably horrified that his crotch was talking to him…

Needless to say, he knew the customers who thought it was funny, and I’m glad I didn’t butt-dial a brand new client of mine. Although, family may never let me live it down… I think from now on, I’ll tuck my phone into my camera bag, if I need it at all. ๐Ÿ˜€
